Structure of Livestock Population, Its Utilisation in Agricultural Production and Returns from Milk Production: A Study Across Agro-Climatic Zones of Assam

The present study was conducted m six districts selected from six agro-climatic zones of Assam covering 900 households. The study discusses about the structural composition of livestock, utilisation of livestock in agricultural production and returns from milk production. The study pertains to the year 2001-02. The findings of study indicate that local cattle is the major livestock in all zones constituting 84 per cent followed by buffalo at 14 per cent while cross bred cows constituted only 2 per cent.
