Context.-Salivary adenocarcinoma, not otherwise specified, refers to gland-forming malignancies that do not satisfy the diagnostic requirements of other "named" malignancies.

Objective.-To review the features of 11 patients with salivary adenocarcinoma, not otherwise specified. To also compare the diagnostic frequencies of 2 databases, one from the Mount Sinai Medical Center (New York, NY), the other from the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital (Shanghai, People's Republic of China).

Salivary gland scintigraphy: The use of semiquantitative analysis for uptake and clearance
Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology ; Objective: Quantitative analysis of ^sup 99m^Tc-pertechnetate salivary gland scintigraphy has been used in the evaluation of salivary gland function, but so far no one method can be considered optimal for this task. In this study, a semiquantitative method providing 2 functional parameters for
Quantitative salivary gland scintigraphy
Journal of Nuclear Medicine Technology ; Objective: Uptake of ^sup 99m^Tc-pertechnetate in salivary glands reflects intact salivary gland parenchyma. However, no standardized protocol for an accurate quantification of parenchymal function has been established so far. Methods: In this paper we report on a validated acquisition protocol
Salivary and lacrimal gland dysfunction (Sicca syndrome) after radioiodine therapy
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; Salivary gland dysfunction has been described in patients undergoing radioiodine therapy but associated lacrimal gland dysfunction (sicca syndrome) has never been reported. We conducted a prospective cohort study with follow-up for up to 3 y in a tertiary care university center to determine the
Role of ^sup 18^F-FDG PET/CT in Management of High-Grade Salivary Gland Malignancies
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; The role of ^sup 18^F-FDG PET/CT for planning the treatment of highgrade salivary gland malignancies was investigated and was compared with that with using contrast-enhanced CT. Methods: The subjects chosen for the study had high-grade cancer of the salivary gland, as confirmed by surgical
^sup 11^C-Methionine PET and Regional Salivary Gland Function
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; Buus et al. from the Aarhus University Hospital (Denmark) reported in the December issue of Radiotherapy and Oncology (2004;73:289-296) on a study evaluating the utility of ^sup 11^C-methionine PET for measuring regional salivary gland function after radiotherapy (RT) for head and neck cancer. The
Re: Does Lemon Candy Decrease Salivary Gland Damage After Radioiodine Therapy for Thyroid Cancer?/REPLY
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; TO THE EDITOR: In their paper on salivary gland damage after high-dose radioiodine ablation therapy, Nakada et al. discuss an interesting and practical issue (1). The authors propose a radiation protection paradigm based on a concept of the dynamics of salivary gland function. The authors claim to
The utility of parotid gland and level I and II neck fine-needle aspiration
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; * Objective.-Although fine-needle aspiration (FNA) commonly is used in the diagnostic workup of parotid gland and level I and II neck lesions, the effect of an FNA service on patient care has not been definitively established. Methods-Follow-up was obtained in 158 patients who underwent FNA. The
The myoepithelial immunophenotype in 135 benign and malignant salivary gland tumors other than pleomorphic adenoma
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; Background.-We have previously studied the immunoreactivity of 3 novel smooth muscle-specific proteins, alphasmooth muscle actin, smooth muscle myosin heavy chains, and calponin, to assess myoepithelial differentiation in pleomorphic adenomas. Objective.-To further expand our knowledge of
Epithelioid Cell Clusters With an Extensive Lymphoid Background: A Common Cytologic Architectural Pattern in the Diagnosis of Salivary Gland Lesions by Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; Context.-Fine-needle aspiration of salivary gland lesions can be particularly challenging for pathologists. There are numerous neoplasms that occur in this area and several cytologic variations of each specific lesion. Objective.-To present and discuss a practical pattern recognition approach to
