Citrus leaves accumulate large amounts of calcium that must be compartmented effectively to prevent stomatal closure by extracellular Ca^sup 2+^ and interference with Ca^sup 2+^-based cell signaling pathways. Using x-ray microanalysis, the distribution of calcium between vacuoles in different cell types of leaves of rough lemon (Citrus jambhiri Lush.) was investigated. Calcium was accumulated principally in palisade, spongy mesophyll, and crystal-containing idioblast cells. It was low in epid...

Ebola virus glycoprotein demonstrates differential cellular localization in infected cell types of nonhuman primates and guinea pigs
Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine ; * Background.-In vitro studies have previously shown that Ebola virus glycoprotein (GP) is rapidly processed and largely released from infected cells, whereas other viral proteins, such as VP40, accumulate within cells. Objective.-To determine infected cell types in which Ebola virus GP and VP40,
Comparative immunocytochemistry of isolated rat & monkey pancreatic islet cell types
Indian Journal of Medical Research ; Background & objectives: Data on comparative distribution of the islet cell types in the Indian bonnet monkeys and rats are not available. The aim of the present study was to compare the arrangement of the three islet cell types in the native and in isolated rat and Indian bonnet monkey islets

Rapid visualization of microtubules in blood cells and other cell types in marine model organisms.
The Biological Bulletin ; Although specific proteins in living cells can now be labeled routinely with Green Fluorescent Protein, indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) methods for fixed material remain in widespread use (e.g., 1). While relatively easy to apply, the standard IIF procedure is lengthy and, for blood cells and

CINCINNATA Controls Both Cell Differentiation and Growth in Petal Lobes and Leaves of Antirrhinum1
Plant Physiology ; To understand how differentiation and growth may be coordinated during development, we have studied the action of the CINCINNATA (CIN) gene of Antirrhinum. We show that in addition to affecting leaf lamina growth, CIN affects epidermal cell differentiation and growth of petal lobes. Strong alleles
Isolation and culture of the three vascular cell types from a small vein biopsy sample
In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology ; SUMMARY The availability of small-diameter blood vessels remains a significant problem in vascular reconstruction. In small-diameter blood vessels, synthetic grafts resulted in low patency; the addition of endothelial cells (EC) has clearly improved this parameter, thereby proving the important
Global Characterization of Cell-Specific Gene Expression through Fluorescence-Activated Sorting of Nuclei1[W][OA]
Plant Physiology ; We describe a simple and highly effective means for global identification of genes that are expressed within specific cell types within complex tissues. It involves transgenic expression of nuclear-targeted green fluorescent protein in a cell-type-specific manner. The fluorescent nuclei are then
VH1, a provascular cell-specific receptor kinase that influences leaf cell patterns in Arabidopsis
Plant Cell ; The formation of the venation pattern in leaves is ideal for examining signaling pathways that recognize and respond to spatial and temporal information, because the pattern is two-dimensional and heritable and the resulting veins influence the three-dimensional spatial organization of the
