Groups ask CPS board to table Renaissance 2010 vote
|
A showdown of sorts takes place this morning when members of the Chicago Board of Education meet to vote on Renaissance 2010, Mayor Richard M. Daley's initiative to create 100 new schools within the next six years.
On one side are Arne Duncan, CEO of Chicago Public Schools (CPS), parents, educators and community members.
On the other, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and community members.
And while the latter group doesn't oppose the spirit of the initiative or deny the need for improving the system, the consensus is that it should be better structured.
