ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study were to evaluate: 1) effects of a physiologically relevant elevated temperature on in vitro development of maturing oocytes, 2) effects of retinol on in vitro development of maturing oocytes, and 3) effects of retinol to improve development of oocytes compromised by an elevated temperature. Bovine oocytes were matured for 24 h at 38.5 or 41.0°C (first 12 h) in 0 or 5 µM retinol. After insemination, cleavage and blastocyst development were assesse...

Getting personal about HEAT STRESS.
Industrial Safety & Hygiene News
; Do your workers know the facts? OK, you've conducted a hazard assessment and identified heat stress as a potential problem in one work area. You've developed a heat stress management plan, put engineering controls in place, changed some work practices, and issued cooler protective apparel. Think

Taking the heat out of the job: construction work is hazardous enough. But when summer brings sweltering temperatures, workers have to be extra careful to not let heat overcome them. One company--Turner Construction--is taking heat stress prevention to new heights.(Heat Stress)
Occupational Hazards
; Escaping the heat while working outdoors in the summer is a challenge. But when the job involves constant drilling, lifting heavy loads or pouring hot asphalt, it becomes almost impossible to stay cool. The challenge of preventing heat stress for outdoor workers has garnered a lot of attention, so

Keeping your cool. (heat stress protection)(includes related article)
Plant Engineering
; Protecting workers from heat stress is more than a summer job. It requires a year-round program of hazard control and application of appropriate cooling equipment. For the plant engineer, safety professional, or industrial hygienist, summer poses some special challenges. One important issue is how

Creating a pipeline to heat stress prevention: although the recent rash of oil spills and fatal explosions at petrochemical companies has made headlines, another threat menaces employees: heat stress.
Occupational Hazards
; When thinking about hot work environments, petrochemical workers come to mind. Not only do they have to battle sweltering temperatures when working on oil rig platforms in warm climates, they also work in and around furnaces, oil tanks and excavated ditches, and with equipment that can reach

Don't overlook the hazards of heat stress: if the dangers of heat stress are well known, why do workers keep getting hurt, or even killed, by the heat?
Occupational Hazards
; Heat stress is a common, yet often ignored hazard in the workplace. While it is widely recognized that heat stress can pose a serious health hazard to workers, employers may not realize that working in hot environments also increases safety risks. Research conducted by the National Institute for

Temperature-Humidity Indices as Indicators of Milk Production Losses due to Heat Stress
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT Meteorological data (1993 to 2004) from 2 public weather stations in Phoenix, Arizona, and Athens, Georgia, were analyzed with test day milk yield data from herds near weather stations to identify the most appropriate temperature-humidity index (THI) to measure losses in milk production
