Parana pine: Straight grain, smooth surfaces

Parana pine is not in the pine family, in spite of what the common lumber name may lead you to believe. It is a soft wood (needles and not broad leaves that is, in fact, closely related to the popular Norfolk Island pine that is grown for home and office decorations. This tree is found primarily in southern Brazil (especially the state of Parana), Paraguay and northern Argentina. The tree has a straight stem with few branches, so it produces abundant high-quality lumber. Any knots are very small pin knots.
