Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age, with prevalence from 3 to 10%. Despite its frequency little is known about its etiology. Ultrasonographic appearance of polycystic ovaries and/or greater ovarian volume in hirsute patients with ovulatory cycles (idiopathic hirsutism) is still not well clarified.
