Russian Gestures: A New Semiotics*

Despite its title, this book is not a conventional descriptive dictionary of gestures. The authors aim to work out a new theoretical approach to the description of gestures, based on a strictly defined conceptual apparatus and set of methodological principles; to discuss the implications of their approach for the relation between gesture and verbal communication; and finally to apply their theory to the description of Russian gestures.
