Opera North at the Lowry

Opera North's Spring visit to Manchester brought my first visit to the North West's newest Arts Centre, Manchester's Lowry Centre. Manchester may indeed claim it, but it actually lies a couple of miles across the Irwell in Salford and forms the latest part of the renovated Docks area of the Manchester Ship Canal, now labeled Salford Quays. Two theatres, galleries galore and plenty of bars make up the centre and, living less than two miles from the centre, I have seen quite a lot of the shape of the building, which looks oddly like a nursery experiment with building blocks.
