PLAINS RESOURCES GOING PRIVATE: A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME?

Though the purchase of Plains Resources Inc., Houston, (NYSE: PLX) by Vulcan Energy Corp. was far from typical, it may not indicate the beginning of a trend. Last week, Plains shareholders approved a $460- million merger offer from Vulcan, the Seattle- based investment group owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Plains is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Vulcan Energy.
