ABSTRACT:

This study investigated the anoxic and aerobic phosphate uptake and release reactions and the fraction of denitrifying phosphate-accumulating organisms (DPAOs) under various initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) and residual COD conditions. The results showed that DPAOs and non-DPAOs could release phosphate when high soluble COD was present. Consequently, the phosphate-uptake potential was dynamic and increased when the initial COD increased, the initial polyhydroxyalkanoates ...

Analysis of phosphate acquisition efficiency in different Arabidopsis accessions
Plant Physiology ; The morphological and physiological characteristics of Arabidopsis accessions differing in their phosphate acquisition efficiencies (PAEs) when grown on a sparingly soluble phosphate source (hydroxylapatite) were analyzed. A set of 36 accessions was subjected to an initial PAE evaluation following
Biological Phosphate Uptake and Release: Effect of pH and Magnesium Ions
Water Environment Research ; ABSTRACT: Enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) is based on poly-phosphate accumulating organisms' (PAOs) unique features of "luxury" phosphate uptake during aerobic conditions and phosphate release in anaerobic conditions. It is believed that poly-phosphate accumulation is accompanied by

If not, we offer the following simple and inexpensive lab-based protocol that will allow
Evaluation of the potential effects of equalization on the performance of biological phosphorus removal systems
Water Environment Research ; ABSTRACT: Experimental data confirming that the phosphorus removal efficiency in biological excess phosphorus removal (BEPR) systems temporarily decreases when the amount of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) added in the anaerobic phase is suddenly increased are presented. This decrease in efficiency
Inhibition of phosphate uptake in corn roots by aluminum-fluoride complexes
Plant Physiology ; Inhibition of Phosphate Uptake in Corn Roots by Aluminum-Fluoride Complexes1 F forms stable complexes with Al at conditions found in the soil. Fluoroaluminate complexes (AlF^sub x^) have been widely described as effective analogs of inorganic phosphate (Pi) in Pi-binding sites of several proteins.
Effect of sulfate reduction on chemical oxygen demand removed in an anaerobic baffled reactor
Water Environment Research ; ABSTRACT: Laboratory studies were conducted to investigate the effect of sulfate reduction on chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal in an eight-compartment anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) at two CODto-sulfate (SO^ sup 2 sub 4^) ratios (40 [corresponding to 100 mg/L SO^ sup 2 sub 4^] and 8 [500 mg/L
High variability in temporal and spatial nutrient retention in Mediterranean streams.
Ecology ; INTRODUCTION Stream nutrient dynamics are influenced by biotic and abiotic processes occurring in the watershed as well as within the stream. The relative contribution of these processes to nutrient retention is determined by the watershed and stream features (such as climate, geomorphology, and
