ABSTRACT
It is not yet clear whether a low-fat or a high-fat diet is more suitable for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia. Therefore, we conducted a dietary study with nonobese hypertriglyceridemic men using a randomized crossover design. After a 2-wk acclimation period, the subjects were randomly assigned to 2 groups. One group consumed a low-fat (29% of energy) diet for 3 wk, followed first by a 2-wk washout period, then a 3-wk high-fat (40% of energy) diet period. The second grou...

The Novel Apolipoprotein A5 Is Present in Human Serum, Is Associated with VLDL, HDL, and Chylomicrons, and Circulates at Very Low Concentrations Compared with Other Apolipoproteins
Clinical Chemistry
; Background: The recently discovered apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) is fast gaining attention as a key regulator of serum triglyceride concentrations. An ApoA5 mouse knock-out model produced an approximately fourfold increase in serum triglycerides, whereas a knock-in model with human ApoA5 produced

Definitive N-Terminal Protein Sequence and Further Characterization of the Novel Apolipoprotein A5 in Human Serum
Clinical Chemistry
; Background: Apolipoprotein A5 (ApoA5) originally gained attention as a regulator of serum triglyceride concentrations through transgenic mouse studies. Our group recently developed the first assay to quantify serum ApoA5 protein concentrations and demonstrated that they are increased by

Assay-Specific Differences in Lipemic Interference in Native and Intralipid-Supplemented Samples
Clinical Chemistry
; Lipemia is a potential cause of analytical interference (1,2). Determinations of the lipemic index (L-index) or triglyceride concentrations are used to quantify lipemia (3, 4). The soy-based lipid emulsion, Intralipid, has been used to simulate lipemia in interference studies (2, 5), but without

Lipaemia: an overrated interference?
British Journal of Biomedical Science
; ABSTRACT Reagent method sheets for analysis of common serum analytes often highlight the possibility of interference from lipaemia but the information given is often brief and may not be instrument-specific. Thus study assesses the degree of interference from lipaemia in a range of common serum

The influence of maternal triglyceride levels on infant birth weight in Peruvian women with pre-eclampsia
Journal of Maternal - Fetal & Neonatal Medicine
; Objective: Hypertriglyceridemia is an important pathophysiological feature of pre-eclampsia, a complication associated with retarded fetal growth. We studied the relation between third-trimester maternal triglyceride levels and infant birth weight in 113 pre-eclamptic and 150 normotensive women.

HPLC Method for Plasma Vitamin K^sub 1^: Effect of Plasma Triglyceride and Acute-Phase Response on Circulating Concentrations
Clinical Chemistry
; Background: The plasma concentration of vitamin K^sub 1^ (phylloquinone) is the most reliable index for assessing vitamin K status. Our aim was to analytically validate an HPLC method for quantifying phylloquinone in plasma and to examine the effect of plasma triglyceride concentration on the

...but fat by any other name is just fat. (medium-chain triglycerides raise blood triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations as much as palm oil)(Biomedicine)(Brief Article)
Science News
; Health food stores across the country sell medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oils as a quick energy source for body builders and a less fattening fat for dieters. Enthusiasts claim, with support from some scientists, that because MCT oils are digested differently from larger triglycerides like those
