I went to see Hidalgo because it was about one of my all-time favorite things--the horse cultures of the Lakota Sioux and the Arabian Bedouin tribes. The film, directed by Joe Johnston, written by John Fusco and starring Viggo Mortensen, Omar Sharif and a sorrel-and-white Mustang pony named T.J., is an over-long Disney action-adventure movie, with some exciting combat scenes that counteract the slow, grueling, 3,000-mile "Ocean of Fire" race that is the center of the picture.
