Dashing Blockade Runner: Captain Thomas J. Lockwood

Thomas Lockwood began his exciting career as a privateer, but soon turned to blockade running. His brother Robert was also a successful blockade runner in his own right.

There is a passage in Gone With The Wind where Rhett Butler is introduced to the crowd at an Atlanta military aid bazaar as "that most daring of all blockade runners...that will-o'-the-wisp of the bounding main." Rhett's sea-going career hardly compared with the real-life exploits of Thomas J. Lockwood.
