Trisbipyrazyl ruthenium(II) (Ru[bpz]3"+) was examined as DNA photosensitizer. Damage resulting from the photolysis of synthetic oligonucleotides has been monitored by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Photoadduct formation is found on both single- and double-stranded oligonucleotides.
