We have studied a surface modification technology using photosensitive material to control surface free energy. This photosensitive material is composed of a photo-curable resin and a surface modifier. The surface modification phenomena can be controlled by the medium's different surface free energy. In a medium of high surface free energy, such as water, photosensitive material is modified to have high surface free energy after curing, whereas, in medium low surface free energy such as air, ...

Influence of Repellent Finishing on the Surface Free Energy of Cellulosic Textile Substrates
Textile Research Journal ; ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to investigate the influence of a fluorochemical repellent treatment with and without an added durable press finish on the surface free energy changes of a cellulosic textile substrate as well as the durability of the finishing agents. For this purpose, contact
Interpreting blood-biomaterial interactions from surface free energy and work of adhesion.
Trends in Biomaterials and Artificial Organs ; Abstract: Blood compatibility is dictated by the manner in which their surfaces interact with blood constituents like RBCs, WBCs, platelets and blood proteins. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of surface free energy and the corresponding work of adhesion of biomaterial surfaces
Protein adsorption on a copolymer having pendant monosaccharide groups. Relationship between surface free energy and protein adsorption
Biomedical Materials ; The difference between surface free energy before and after protein adsorption on the copolymer surface was closely related to the amount of adsorbed protein. The copolymers were synthesised by the copolymerisation of a monomer having a pendant monosaccharide glucosyloxyethyl methacrylate (GEMA)
Determining the Surface Free Energy of Cellulose Materials with the Powder Contact Angle Method
Textile Research Journal ; ABSTRACT Different treatment processes such as alkaline washing, bleaching, and slack-mercerization are used to improve the sorption characteristics of cellulose fibers. The differences between the sorption properties of cellulose fibers are measured with tensiometry, and their sorption velocities
Developments in Determining the Anisotropy of Solid-Liquid Interfacial Free Energy
JOM ; Interfacial free energy and its anisotropy are key to understanding both crystal nucleation and growth behavior. New methods for accurately determining these properties have been developed in the last few years, both theoretically and experimentally. However, there are many questions to be

Calculation of Free Energy Barriers to the Fusion of Small Vesicles
Biophysical Journal ; ABSTRACT The fusion of small vesicles, either with a planar bilayer or with one another, is studied using a microscopic model in which the bilayers are composed of hexagonal- and lamellar-forming amphiphiles. The free energy of the system is obtained within the self-consistent field approximation.
Association Free Energy of Dipalmitoylphosphatidylserines in a Mixed Dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine Membrane
Biophysical Journal ; ABSTRACT Blood coagulation is strongly dependent on the binding of vitamin K-dependent proteins to cell membranes containing phosphatidylserine (PS) via γ-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla) domains. The process depends on calcium, which can induce nonideal behavior in membranes through domain

Ligand binding by antibody IgE Lb4: Assessment of binding site preferences using microcalorimetry, docking, and free energy simulations
Biophysical Journal ; ABSTRACT Antibody IgE Lb4 interacts favorably with a large number of different compounds. To improve the current understanding of the structural basis of this vast cross-reactivity, the binding of three dinitrophenyl (DNP) amino acids (DNP-alanine, DNP-glycine, and DNP-serine) is investigated in
