Abstract: U-Pb zircon ages are presented for the Ballachulish Igneous Complex (^sup 207^Pb-^sup 206^Pb age 427 ± 1 Ma; ^sup 206^Pb-^sup 238^U age 423 ± 0.3 Ma) and Glencoe Volcanic Complex (^sup 207^Pb-^sup 206^Pb age 406 ± 6 Ma) of the Scottish Highlands. These ages are significantly more precise than pre-existing age constraints, and discriminate a previously unresolved age difference of c. 20 Ma between the two complexes. This difference in age provides an explanation for the c. 10 km d...

Early Silurian mafic-ultramafic and granitic plutonism in contemporaneous flysch, Magerøy, northern Norway: U-Pb ages and regional significance
Journal of the Geological Society ; Abstract: The Caledonian Mageray sequence comprises Earliest Silurian clastic metasedimentary rocks, which underwent folding and regional metamorphism and were intruded by a mafic-ultramafic complex and various granitic plutons. U-Pb ages of 438.2 0.7 Ma for gabbro in the Honningsvg Igneous
New dates (415 Ma) for the Etive Dyke Swarm and the end of the Caledonian Orogeny in the SW Grampian Highlands of Scotland
Journal of the Geological Society ; New laser stepwise heating ^sup 40^Ar-^sup 39^Ar dates (415 1.8 and 414 2 Ma) from the Etive Dyke Swarm in the SW Grampian Highlands of Scotland indicate that the dykes are 10-20 Ma older than previously assumed. The dykes constitute the final phase of the Late Caledonian Granites in the region,

CCNMatthews Newswire ; TORONTO, ONTARIOCCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2005) - Further to the Press Release of December, 16th, 2004, Afcan (TSX:AFK) is pleased to announce that the results of the drilling program confirm the initial concept of a basal contact structure with disseminated sulphide zones intersected in holes AF0007
U-Pb age constraints on Variscan magmatism and Ni-Cu-PGE metallogeny in the Ossa-Morena Zone (SW Iberia)
Journal of the Geological Society ; Abstract: New U-Pb zircon ages from the Santa Olalla Igneous Complex have been obtained, which improve the knowledge of the precise timing of Variscan magmatism in the Ossa-Morena Zone, SW Iberia. This complex has a special relevance as it hosts the most important Ni-Cu-platinum group element (PGE)
New age constraints for the Ordovician Tyrone Volcanic Group, Northern Ireland
Journal of the Geological Society ; Abstract: New biostratigraphical evidence and a high-precision isotope dilution thermal ionization mass spectrometry U-Pb zircon age provide refined age constraint for the Ordovician Tyrone Volcanic Group of the Tyrone Igneous Complex. Neoproterozoic igneous complex emplaced along major tectonic boundary in the Kaoko Belt (NW Namibia): ion probe and LA-ICP-MS dating of magmatic and metamorphic zircons
Journal of the Geological Society ; Abstract: Granitoid intrusions of the Boundary Igneous Complex separate segments with different ages of high-grade metamorphism in the Kaoko Belt, NW Namibia. Two granitoids of this complex were dated at 575 10 Ma (secondary ionization mass spectrometry; SIMS) or 571 9 Ma (laser ablation
The aureole of the Rum tertiary igneous complex, Scotland
Journal of the Geological Society ; Abstract: The aureole of the Tertiary Rum Igneous Complex formed at shallow levels in amphibolite-facies migmatitic Lewisian gneisses and previously unmetamorphosed Precambrian arkose of the Torridonian Group. Contact metamorphism of arkose resulted in the breakdown of chlorite-rich cement and
