The Mexican War has been largely forgotten by those north of the Rio Grande. But as this volume makes clear, the U.S. invasion of Mexico in 1846 and the diplomatic maneuvering that accompanied the conflict were important in many ways, not the least of which was the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that secured Texas, New Mexico, and California for the U.S.
