Kellogg's win 'liberates Harvey'; Former mayor Nicholas Graves says he's planning to move out of town

Saying that the people won the election, Harvey Mayor-Elect Eric Kellogg Wednesday vowed to give the small suburban town a burst of hope, trust, and an injection of economic development it deserves.

Kellogg, a former Harvey alderman, defeated two-term Mayor Nick Graves by a vote of 2,947 to Graves' 2,319.

It was their second rematch, when in 1999 Graves, the former Harvey Park District Commissioner and ex-police chief, defeated Kellogg by more than 300 votes--a feat that shocked some Black activists who thought since Harvey is 80 percent Black, their candidate would easily defeat the ...
