The legendary Irish giant Fionn Mac Cumhail, today known as Finn McCool, is reputed to have come to blows with the Scottish giant Benandonner. In the fray, folk hero McCool scooped up a huge clod of earth and flung it at his fleeing rival. It landed in the Irish Sea and became the Isle of Man. The resulting crater filled with water and became Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the British Isles and the source of the river Bann.
