In this paper, I will analyze the relationship between the camera and its feet in colonial Africa; between the processes of picture making and political subjugation. I will insist on the films made by France on and in Africa south of the Sahara, mainly until 1953. But let me start with a reader's letter published on March 7, 1914 in the newspaper Le Film:
