Canada's Placer Dome, which has been exploring the giant Sukhoi Log gold lode in the Irkutsk region, has confirmed information provided by Russian geologists about the deposit's reserves. Douglas Brown, Placer Dome's development and planning officer in Irkutsk, said the company, which explored Sukhoi Log between September and December last year, wanted to doublecheck the figures prior to bidding in a tender to develop the deposit. The company, together with Canada's Barrick Gold and Rio Tinto plc, received licenses to conduct further exploration last summer.
