Summary. Examination of herbarium specimens of Lavandula species from Saharan massifs has revealed two distinct groups, here described as species. Lavandula antineae Maire occurs in Algeria, Niger, Chad and Sudan. Lavandula saharica occurs in Algeria and Libya and is described here. Within L. antineae, we recognise subsp. antineae from the Hoggar (Algeria) and Air (Niger), subsp. tibestica from the Tibesti (Chad) and subsp. mamma from Jebel Marra (Sudan).
