Doherty: `My people not going to pay reparations'
The lone Republican in the City Council who voted against reparations for Blacks, Ald. Brian Doherty (41st) Wednesday said his people weren't around for slavery and are not about to pay for restitution.
"How can you make a direct relationship to them? They weren't even here if they were in Italy, Poland, or Ireland or Germany How can they be responsible for something that happened 300-400 years ago and a direct monetary responsibility? It's not there," Doherty told reporters.
