National Guard Could Lose Troops

The increased tempo of activation and deployments for National Guard troops is taking its toll on America's citizen-soldiers. USA Today reported that an internal Guard survey of 5,000 soldiers from 15 states showed that 20%-22% of those who have served yearlong, overseas tours could leave the military.

The historical average is 18%. Recently, that figure has improved: only 16% of Guard troops left last year and between 2001-03, only 12.5% did not re-enlist.
