After 60 years of outstanding service in war and peace a memorable Coast Guard lighthouse tender is retired

She wasn't a fast ship. She wasn't a pretty ship. She never saw combat. United States Coast Guard Cutter Bramble (WLB-392) was built as a buoy tender - and that was the mission she performed for most of her 59-year history. But between extended stints maintaining aids to navigation, Bramble managed to participate in some of the most remarkable Naval adventures of the 20th century. Not bad for a 13-knot buoy tender.
