One of the leading causes of mortality in the Western world, colorectal cancer is also one disease that may be significantly modulated through diet and nutrition. 5 Experimental and epidemiological evidence from around the world suggests an inverse relationship between colorectal cancer and dietary calcium and/or vitamin D intake (or, for the latter, exposure to the sun).5 For example, a recent large-- scale study in Finland demonstrated that of all the dietary factors, calcium intake was the strongest one related to colorectal cancer.'
