Lumumba--the first tottering steps on the road to the truth

On 24 February, the Belgian parliament "officially" gave the final green light for the investigation into Lumumba's murder to begin. But not everybody is happy.

At last the stage appears to be set for a full disclosure of Belgium's role and the personalities behind the murder, on 17 January 1961, of Patrice Lumumba, the first premier of Congo (now called DRCongo).

By an overwhelming majority of 121 votes in favour and 16 abstentions from the far right Vlaams Blok party the Belgian parliament decided on 24 February to formally set up a commission of inquiry into Lumumba's death.
