SunLine Transit Agency is now known world-wide for its innovative solutions to transit pollution and for its environmental leadership. Coachella Valley has become equally well-known as the site for testing of various forms of transit alternative fuels.

This recognition came because, under Richard Cromwell's leadership, SunLine Transit Agency completely converted to compressed natural gas buses in 1994, the fast transit agency in the United States with a 100 percent conversion.
