An organizational history by Daniel Lorello, Senior Archivist, NYSARA
Many of the Civil Warrelated records and artifacts presently residing in the custody of various New York State agencies -- including the New York State Archives, the New York State Library, and the Division of Military and Naval Affairs -- were collected and compiled by a little-known agency created during the Civil War, the Bureau of Military of Statistics.
