Comedian Bill Hicks referred to his nonstop touring -- as many as 300 gigs a year -- as "Flying Saucer Tours," because he usually appeared in small southern towns in front of people who didn't understand him. Hicks' comedy was somewhat abusive, regularly incendiary, overtly political, often pornographic and always hilarious. For this he was awarded that show-biz booby prize known as a "cult following," even before his premature death in 1994, at age 33.
