You might not expect to hear the grind of pummeling double-guitar harmonies piercing the walls of the artsy hodgepodge that is the Lava Lounge. But inside a room that swirls with psychedelic montages from ceiling to floor. Penance rips into a blistering set of thick and dirty guitars. Matt Tuite and new member Dave Roman play their guitars in an almost dissonant harmony, while bassist Mary Bielich adds texture with notes that drag and pull at your gut: The riff-intensive Penance fiercely plods along with soul.
