CRAZY BAD? Intermountain Hospital's Precarious Brand of Psychiatry for Profit

To anyone familiar with the history of psychiatry it's an indelible image, Boilly's dramatic painting of the enlightened reformer Philippe Pinel (1745-1826), finally unshackling the prisoners of Salpetriere from their chains. To most of us, it's the image straight out of the 1975 film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's a vision of the insane asylum as dungeon, whether dark and medieval, or cold and clinical. It's a picture that many patients believe is appropriate for Intermountain Hospital, Boise's own private psychiatric facility.
