Worth the Wait? The Slow Work of Evaluating Abstinence Education

Does abstinence-only sex education work? Buzz Pruitt and Pat Goodson, two professors of health education at Texas A&M, can't say. Not yet, anyway. In the last two years, they have received nearly $360,000 from the Texas Department of Health to do a rigorous scientific evaluation of the state's 31 so-called "abstinence contractors." "Everyone wants to know the bottom line," Pruitt said. "We don't have that information yet."
