Women's Studies: A Model for a Specialty in Women's Health

Barely more than two decades old, Women's Studies has held the status in academia of an emerging field. Because of its political connections, its interdisciplinary nature, and its focus on women, Women's Studies has struggled during its brief life to find and secure a foothold in the academy. While continuing to fight for recognition and funding as it enters its third decade, Women's Studies can begin to serve as a model for success for new specialties centered on women emerging in other professions.
