Drug trafficking is the most salient feature of Colombia today. Its rapid development from the mid-1970s onwards has brought about radical changes in Colombia's economy, as well as in society as a whole and in the cultural and political spheres. At the same time, it has been one of the phenomena that has most contributed to our present profile as a nation. There are various ways to approach an analysis of the drug trade and its impact on our national life, let alone its international dimension, which is, of course, basic for a complete understanding.
