Public health measures have been responsible for many of the major improvements in the health of Canadians over the past 50 years. However, in the wake of Walkerton and the tainted blood scandal, SARS outbreaks and the West Nile virus, Canadians are expressing concern about the adequacy of Canada's public health system.

CNA shares these concerns and points to cutbacks to the health system as a root cause for these problems. CNA also believes the shortage of nurses is contributing to the lack of resilience in the public health system. Clearly, public health nurses are major players, estimated ...
