Introduction

The war in Iraq was prosecuted to satisfy the ideological aspirations of a relatively narrow group of individuals. It was a policy carried out not because of the war on terrorism, but the war on terrorism was seized upon as an opportunity to launch it. The invasion and occupation of Iraq will in fact worsen the overall international situation with regards to terrorism.
