THE POEM ON THE FALL OF THE TYRANT in Isaiah 14 is astonishing. Otto Kaiser's assessment is appropriate: "This taunt, in the form of a lament, upon the death of a world ruler and the fall of his empire, is one of the most powerful poems not only of the Old Testament, but of the whole literature of the world."1
