"Weather affects our business most," says Patrick McGarity, co-manager with his mother, Cathy, of the family-owned Robbie's Billiards, which has been selling pool tables in Hagerstown since 1954 and at a newly-opened Winchester showroom.

"We do most of our volume in the fourth quarter, and the bulk of the tables are sold when the weather is bad. Bad weather is actually good for business all year. The day after the recent hurricane was a big day. I'm not sure why; perhaps bad weather makes people think about doing things at home."
