Jazz great Lionel Hampton passes at 94

Lionel Hampton, the 94-year-old incomparable jazz legend of the vibraphone passed on the morning of August 31 at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. Hampton had suffered from complications related to health problems and a previous heart attack, according to one source. Throughout his more than 70-year illustrious career, he toured extensively, made several hits and broke racial barriers, as a vibra-harp genius.

Although a serious musician, Hampton was known as a high-energy performer who dazzled throngs as a mesmerizing musician.
