Never have major national newspapers and magazines covered Latino population growth as intensely as they did after the U.S. Census 2000 reports were released last spring. Latinos, now at 35.3 million, represent 13 percent of the U.S. population, surpassing Blacks for the first time in U.S. history and leading all population groups in growth from 1990 to 2000-58 percent.
