Throughout our nation's history, African Americans have made many significant contributions to literature, music, and the arts. Yet over these many years, blacks have been almost completely marginalized in membership elections to America's honorary organizations. Today, African Americans make up just 2 percent of the membership of the nation's most prestigious society honoring the most creative people in these fields.
