News and Views: Freshmen at Black Colleges Are More Conservative Than Their Peers of a Generation Ago
In the Spring issue of JBHE we reported the conclusions of the 1997 UCLA survey of the political and social views of freshmen at historically black colleges and universities.(*) The 1997 survey concluded that freshmen at black colleges tend to be a rather strait-laced group that shuns partying and generally takes life more seriously than do students at predominantly white colleges and universities.
