Influences of ethnicity, interracial climate, and racial majority in school on adolescent ethnic identity

Using a questionnaire completed in a school setting, the study discussed in this article examined the ethnic identity development of 2 52 adolescents. The study probed for possible association of ethnic identity development with ethnicity, school interracial climate, and the racial majority in a given school environment. Key measures included were the Multigroup Ethnic Identity Scale, the Interracial Climate Scale, and sociodemographics including ethnic or racial population percentages.
