For the one-year anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, the "yahrzeit" in Hebrew, the JCC of Manhattan wanted to go beyond a traditional religious service to bring together its Upper West Side community.

Experiences of 9-11 were "marked by stories," explains Rabbi Joy Levitt. "Not so much speeches by famous people, but stories each of us were carrying around with us," says Levitt, associate executive director for programming at the JCC of Manhattan.
