`Mahalia' tells story of world renowned gospel singer

Community Outreach for Positive Alternative Training presents "Mahalia," a play about the life story of world renowned gospel singer Mahalia Jackson.

The play is scheduled for Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. and Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, Youngstown, Ohio.

By her death in 1972 at age 60, Jackson had blazed trails in the field of gospel music like no one before her. From her humble beginnings singing at Greater Salem Baptist Church to singing in the White House, Jackson never wavered from the original call of ...
