White: I Don't Play Jazz

Veteran guitarist Peter White is tired of his music being saddled with the label "contemporary jazz." Yet in his bio to announce his Columbia record debut CD, those very words are among a list of categories loosely applied to his craft.

"What we play isn't jazz, it's instrumental music," White said when faced with the question of how the current group of musicians he is touring with should be billed.

"The music I play on stage is not as improvisational as jazz," he said, frustration reflected in his British accent.
