Star Gazers: Adams; Contemporary gospel music meets people where they are

Just like so many other contemporary gospel singers--Be Be and CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin and Mary Mary--Yolanda Adams has been accused of taking gospel music too far.

Their critics charge that the singers are too secular, arguing it isn't really gospel music because it doesn't sound like music made by the likes of Mahalia Jackson and James Cleveland.

But Adams, in a cover story in the July ESSENCE magazine, says God is speaking to a new generation. And as such, gospel music should meet people where ...
