Finger Lakes Wineries Look Forward to New Millenium

PENN YAN-Three words sum up the future for Finger Lakes wineries, according to Jim Trezise: "More. Bigger. Better." Trezise is president of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation located in Penn Yan.

Trezise says the area's 50-plus wineries make up the fastest-growing winery region in the state. With a 170-year wine-and-grape production history, he says, twothirds of its wineries have opened in the past 15 years. The last three years have seen major construction at more than a third of them, many doubling their facilities, and two or three new wineries open each year.
